The Good News

This may be a book publishing company, but that’s not the main mission. The main mission is to point people to Jesus Christ. All of us will pass from life into eternity one day, and we can’t take anything with us, except for souls. That’s why we think it’s so important to help our chidren know Jesus and what the Bible says by building a firm foundation for them.

It’s natural to think we’re good, but the Bible teaches that none are good except God (Mark 10:18). We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). A sheep looks white until it is set in a backdrop of glistening white snow, then suddenly its wool shows blemishes, dirt, and imperfections. Similarly, “good” people appear good until they are held up to the goodness of God’s law. It is then that our sinfulness is exposed, as we have all broken many of the Ten Commandments. We all are deserving of hell because we’ve sinned against the Holy God. But the Good News is that’s not how it has to end.

The wages of sin is death. That means that death is the punishment for sin. Instead of us dying a spiritual death (hell) for our sins, God sent His One and Only Son, Jesus Christ, to die in our place. We still will die a physical death, but instead of dying a spiritual death ourselves, Jesus transferred that punishment onto Himself. There is nothing we can do ourselves to be saved. No amount of good works can earn our way to heaven, because they do not amount to the punishment of sin: death. Only Jesus could have paid that price for us. And He did. We are, however, required to repent and trust in Him as our Lord and Savior, to receive His atonement for our sins. It wasn’t a blanket covering for all; it only applies to those who repent of their sins and trust in Him.

It’s not about “accepting Jesus into your heart” as the modern saying proclaims. It’s not about beckoning God to bring forth great plans for your life. It’s not about seeking financial security or good health in the here and now. Seeking God for motives that bring benefit to ourselves produces a shallow faith that cause many to spring up for a time then fall away when they feel that God has not changed their circumstances substantially for the better. But when we understand that we don’t follow God to have a better life, but rather out of our need for a Savior because God’s Law has exposed our sin, the perspective shifts.

Following God often does not come with better circumstances. Just ask all those who were martyred for their faith in the Bible for following Jesus, and those who have and will face persecution and martyrdom in modern history. That’s not to say we aren’t recipients of God’s blessings. The fact that He sustains the air in our lungs is blessing enough, and we ought to thank Him for it. But the fact remains that we will all still die a physical death due to the fall in the Garden of Eden. The Good News is that we don’t have to die in the second death (spiritual death).

Our next breath isn’t guaranteed. Repent and trust in Jesus today, the only One who is able to save us from hell. And that is the Good News.

Hope to see you in heaven one day, friend.
